The Warm Fur

Late autumn had arrived, and the forest was getting colder. The little bunny, Snowflake, could feel how the wind grew stronger each day and the nights became longer and colder. But surprisingly, even on the chilliest days, he felt cozy and warm. "Why is my fur so warm and fluffy?" Snowflake wondered as he looked at his soft paws.

One day, he decided to ask his mother. "Mama, why is my fur so warm?" he asked, snuggling close to her. Mother Rabbit smiled and said, "Your winter fur is your protection from the cold. It helps you not to freeze when it’s chilly outside. Many animals in the forest, like us, grow warm fur or fluffy coats in winter to keep warm."

Snowflake thought about this and looked around. He noticed a squirrel darting along a branch that didn’t seem scared of the cold. "And what about the squirrel?" he asked his mother. She explained, "The squirrel also has thick fur, which helps it stay warm. Every animal in the forest has its own way of keeping warm in winter."

The next day, Snowflake met a hedgehog getting ready to hibernate. "Why isn’t the hedgehog afraid of the cold?" the little bunny asked curiously. His mother explained that many animals, like hedgehogs, hibernate during winter to avoid the cold. "But little bunnies like you don’t hibernate. That’s why you need warm fur so you can hop and play even in winter."

Soon, Snowflake noticed that his fur had become even fluffier and lighter in color – this way, he was better protected from the winter cold and also camouflaged in the snowy forest. Now he was proud of his fur and knew it would help him get through winter without fear. "Thank you, Mama, now I understand why my fur is so special," Snowflake said.

In winter, when the forest was covered in snow, Snowflake continued to play, feeling safe and warm. His fluffy fur was like a soft, warm blanket that was always with him.
