A Letter for Grandpa

When Grandpa travels to another city, Ilya writes him a letter with well-wishes and drawings. In response, Grandpa thanks him, and Ilya understands how important kind words are.

A Letter for Grandpa

On a warm autumn day, Ilya's grandpa told him he had to go on a business trip to another city. He would be gone for a week, and Ilya wouldn’t see him for several days. Ilya knew he would miss his grandpa because they often spent time together: they went for walks, played board games, and read interesting books.

“Grandpa, I’ll miss you,” Ilya said as Grandpa packed his suitcase.

“I’ll miss you too, Ilyusha,” replied Grandpa, hugging his grandson. “But it’s only for a week, and I’ll be back with new stories and adventures!”

When Grandpa left, Ilya felt a bit of emptiness. The house seemed quieter, and even his favorite toys didn’t keep him as entertained as usual. So Ilya decided to do something special for his grandpa. He thought it would be nice to write him a letter, telling him about things happening at home and wishing him a safe journey.

Ilya went to his room, took out paper and colored pencils, and began writing. He knew Grandpa loved receiving letters and cards and was sure that a letter would brighten Grandpa’s days away from home.

Ilya started his letter with simple words:

“Dear Grandpa! I miss you a lot. I hope you’re well and having a nice time in the other city. I’d like to tell you about my days without you...”

Ilya lovingly described each day, telling Grandpa about playing with Mom and Dad, meeting his friends in the yard, and reading the book Grandpa gave him for his birthday.

Once the letter was written, Ilya decided to add a few drawings. He drew himself and Grandpa sitting together on a bench, as well as their favorite cat, Murka, who usually slept by Grandpa’s feet. The drawings were bright and cheerful, and Ilya proudly added them to the letter.

When the letter was ready, Ilya put it in an envelope and asked his mom to mail it to Grandpa. He imagined Grandpa opening the envelope, smiling as he read Ilya’s words and looked at the drawings. It felt so good to do something warm and kind for someone he loved.

Days passed, and every day Ilya eagerly awaited Grandpa’s return. Then, after a week, the front door opened, and Grandpa entered, looking a bit tired but happy. Ilya ran to him, hugged him, and excitedly asked:

“Grandpa, did you get my letter?”

Grandpa nodded, smiling:

“Yes, Ilyusha, I received it! Your letter made my days so much brighter. Thank you for your warm words and wonderful drawings. It was the best gift I could have received!”

Ilya was overjoyed. He realized that even a simple letter with kind words and drawings could be a real gift for someone dear. He felt that care and attention for those we love meant more than the most expensive things.

That evening, Ilya and Grandpa talked for a long time. Grandpa told stories about his adventures in the other city, and Ilya listened with interest, knowing that they were now back together and that their bond had grown even stronger because of that letter.
