Cat's Gratitude – A Japanese Fairy Tale of Kindness and Devotion

Short Description: This Japanese fairy tale tells the story of a cat that gratefully repaid its owner for his kindness. The story shows that love and devotion have no boundaries.

Long ago, in a Japanese village, lived a poor farmer named Taro. He was a kind-hearted person who always helped those around him despite his modest circumstances. One day, while returning home from the field, he heard a plaintive meowing. In the bushes, he found a skinny and emaciated cat.

— Poor thing, you probably haven't eaten anything for a long time, — said Taro. — Come with me, I'll take care of you.

He brought the cat home, fed it rice and warm milk. From then on, the cat lived with Taro, whom he named Tama. The cat was affectionate and always tried to be near its rescuer, delighting him with its purring.

Several months passed, and strange things began to happen in the village. At night, someone would sneak into houses, stealing food and valuable items. People started to suspect that it was the work of a demon that dwelled in the old forest on the edge of the village.

One night, Taro also heard something scratching at his door. Taking a lantern, he cautiously went outside and saw a large black beast with burning eyes. It was the very demon. It rushed towards Taro, but at that moment, Tama jumped forward and stood between the owner and the monster.

The cat arched its back, hissed, and lunged at the demon. Its bravery so astonished and frightened the creature that it retreated into the forest. Taro embraced his cat, thanking it for the rescue.

The next morning, Taro decided to investigate what was happening in the forest. He set out there with Tama. Deep in the forest, they found an old temple where the demon kept the stolen items from the villagers. Taro returned everything, and the villagers recognized how the brave cat had helped its owner and everyone else.

From then on, Tama became not just a cat, but a hero of the village. People began to treat animals with more kindness, understanding that they can be loyal friends and protectors.
