First Aid Lessons: Vanya Learns to Care for His Friends
Vanya and his friends attend a first aid class, learning how to help each other in times of need and discovering the importance of care and attentiveness to others.
One warm autumn morning, Anna Petrovna gathered the children and announced that today they would have an important lesson in learning first aid. Vanya, Liza, and Pasha listened intently; they didn’t know exactly what first aid meant, but they understood that it was something important. Anna Petrovna explained that first aid is the help we can give to people with minor injuries before the doctor arrives.
First, Anna Petrovna told the children what they should do if someone falls and gets hurt. She explained that it’s important to stay calm, ask the person how they’re feeling, and, if needed, help them sit down. Vanya listened carefully, imagining how he could help a friend if someone fell during playtime. Liza asked what to do if someone had a small scratch, and Anna Petrovna explained how to gently clean the wound.
Then Anna Petrovna showed the children how to apply a bandage properly. She brought soft bandages and suggested they try putting one on a doll’s “injured” hand. Vanya carefully wrapped the bandage around the doll’s “hurt” arm, trying to follow Anna Petrovna’s instructions exactly. Liza and Pasha also gave it a try and realized that it wasn’t too hard if you knew what to do.
Once the children mastered basic bandaging, Anna Petrovna explained the importance of stopping bleeding from a small scrape or cut. She showed how to hold a clean tissue on the wound to stop the bleeding. Vanya realized it was simple but very important—he would know how to help any of his friends if something like this happened.
Afterward, Anna Petrovna explained how to comfort someone who might be scared or crying. She told them they could gently pat a friend on the back, reassure them that everything would be okay, and even suggest taking deep breaths together to calm down. Liza listened thoughtfully and imagined how she could comfort her friends if they ever felt frightened.
At the end of the lesson, Anna Petrovna suggested the children practice “helping” each other by acting out different scenarios. Vanya pretended to have a cut on his finger, and Liza immediately approached him, offered him a tissue, and helped him “stop the bleeding.” Pasha pretended he’d twisted his ankle, and Vanya helped him sit down while asking him how he felt. The children were delighted that they could now help each other if needed.
When the lesson ended, Anna Petrovna praised everyone for their patience and effort. She explained that first aid is not just about knowing what to do in case of an injury but also about showing care and attention to others. Vanya, Liza, and Pasha understood the importance of this and felt ready to help their friends if something ever happened.
Moral: First aid teaches us to care for and be attentive to our friends. When we know how to help, we can support those around us and make their world a bit safer and kinder.
