How to Make a Musical Instrument from Plastic Bottles
Children create a musical instrument from plastic bottles and rubber bands, making their own drum. A simple and engaging project to foster creativity.
Lena and Petya were eagerly looking forward to today, as they had planned to make a musical instrument. Lena had read in a magazine about making a musical instrument from plastic bottles and rubber bands, and she immediately suggested to Petya to try it out. They decided to create an instrument that would make sounds similar to a drum. Since they had many empty plastic bottles, they decided to use them for their idea.
“Have you ever tried making a musical instrument out of bottles?” asked Lena, pulling out empty plastic bottles and rubber bands. “We can create a drumming instrument that will sound really unusual! Instead of a regular drum membrane, we’ll use rubber bands.”
Petya took a bottle in his hands, intrigued:
“Sounds interesting! How exactly are we going to use these rubber bands?”
Lena began to explain:
“We’ll stretch the rubber bands over the neck of the bottle, and they’ll vibrate when we tap them. This will create a sound that resembles a drum hit, but with an interesting effect. We can use different bottles to change the sound!”
They started gathering materials. Lena selected several plastic bottles of different sizes to create different sounds. Petya, in turn, prepared rubber bands to stretch them over the bottles. Instead of a usual drum membrane, they decided to use rubber bands to create an unusual sound.
“We’ll need some glue to stick the paper to the back of the bottle,” said Lena, carefully applying glue to the surface. “This will make our musical instrument sturdier and more stable.”
Petya watched the process carefully and decided to add his own element to the musical instrument. He took another bottle and stretched several rubber bands of different thicknesses over it.
“What if we make several bottles with different rubber bands? Then we could have an entire musical ensemble!” Petya suggested.
Lena agreed with the suggestion and added several bottles with different rubber bands to create a variety of sounds. Once the bottles were ready, they began experimenting with the sounds they could make by tapping the rubber bands.
“Now everything’s ready! Look at the sounds we’re making,” said Petya as he tapped the rubber bands. “We can create an entire rhythm, like on a real drum!”
Lena happily added:
“Yes, it’s like a drum! We could even make a whole ensemble by using different bottles and rubber bands to create various sounds. We can try making different rhythms, like real musicians!”
Petya happily experimented with the rubber bands, trying to produce different sounds by changing the tension of the rubber bands. They played together, creating rhythms and enjoying the sounds their musical instruments produced.
