How to Build a Construction Kit from Old Parts

Children create a construction kit from old toys and parts, building new mechanisms and structures. A fun and creative project for kids in the workshop.

How to Build a Construction Kit from Old Parts

Lena and Petya loved spending time in their workshop, creating various projects and building things with their own hands. One day, while cleaning up their toys, Lena noticed several old toy parts that hadn’t been used in a while. Instead of throwing them away, she came up with a great idea for Petya — to build a new construction kit from these parts!

Lena and Petya find old parts for the construction kit

— Look, Petya! — Lena said, while flipping through a book — We have so many different pieces: wheels, plastic parts, small toy car pieces. We can use them to create something entirely new! It will be our own construction kit, — Lena said, looking at the pile of old toys she had gathered from the floor.

Petya was excited about the idea:

— Cool! We can make a whole new mechanism or even a model from these parts. What do you think we should make?

Lena thought for a moment:

— Well, if we combine all these parts, we could build a robot that moves. Or maybe a car that runs on batteries. It all depends on how many parts we use and how we connect them.

The kids decided to start with something simple. Lena chose a few wheels and plastic parts, while Petya began looking for small details that could be useful for the mechanism. He also grabbed a few old batteries that would be essential for their project.

Petya and Lena begin assembling the construction kit from old parts

— First, we need to figure out how to connect all these parts so they stay together, — Lena said, carefully inspecting the pieces. — We’ll start by making the base of our construction and then gradually add more parts to make everything work.

Petya chose some larger plastic parts and set them in a row. Lena carefully glued them together to create the foundation. Once the main structure was ready, they began adding wheels and other parts they had found among the old toys.

— Look, it's coming together! — said Petya as they attached the wheels to their construction. — Now we can try to make it move!

Lena smiled:

— You’re right, but we need to add a motor so the wheels can move. And for that, we’ll need smaller parts to create a system that transfers movement from the motor to the wheels.

The kids began searching the box of parts for anything that might be useful for the mechanism. They found a small motor from an old toy car and some wires, which they connected to the batteries. Once the system was built, they connected the motor to the construction.

Lena and Petya assemble the system to move the wheels of the construction kit

— Now we can try turning it on, — Petya said eagerly.

Lena switched on the motor, and they joyfully watched as the wheels began to move!

— Hooray! It’s working! Our robot is moving! — exclaimed Lena, watching as their construction started moving around the workshop.

Petya was thrilled:

— This is amazing! Now we have a moving robot that we made from old parts. What if we make it more complex? Maybe we can add a head or even make it move on two wheels?

Lena suggested:

— Let’s add some more parts and try to make it turn. We can connect extra parts and add an axle for turning!

The kids continued adding parts and experimenting with different elements to improve the construction. They added an axle for turning and a few more parts so the mechanism could turn left and right. After a while, their construction kit became more complex, and now it could move in different directions!

The kids finish the construction kit, which can now turn

— We made a real robot! — said Petya, proudly. — Now it can move and turn. And all thanks to old toys and parts!

Lena agreed:

— Yes, and it showed us how to create new things from what seemed to be no longer needed. We’ve made a construction kit that can do different things, and that’s not only fun but useful!

The kids decided they would continue using old parts to create other mechanisms and machines. This experience showed them how important it is to use what’s already available to create something new and useful. They were happy they had made such a wonderful construction kit with their own hands and promised each other they would keep experimenting in the workshop, creating even more complex and interesting projects.
