Magic Paints – A Chinese Fairy Tale about the Boy Malyan and His Gift

Short Description: This fairy tale tells the story of the boy Malyan, who received magic paints. His talent for bringing drawings to life helped people, teaching them kindness and generosity.

In a small village where all the residents were engaged in the arts, lived a poor boy named Malyan. He dreamed of becoming an artist but couldn’t afford even a simple brush. Instead, he drew in the sand with a twig or with charcoal on stones. His drawings were so beautiful that everyone admired how he could create such wonders without having paints.

One night, while Malyan was asleep, an old man came to him in a dream. He held a golden brush in his hands. "This is a magic brush," said the old man. "Use it to paint, but only for good deeds." In the morning, Malyan found the brush on his table. At first, he thought it was just a dream, but the brush was real!

He immediately decided to try it out. Malyan drew a bird, and it came to life, flapping its wings. Then he drew a stream for the village, where there had long been no water, and clear water began to flow across the land. The people were happy and thanked Malyan for his kind heart.

But news of the magic brush reached a cruel and greedy ruler. He ordered Malyan to be captured and brought to the palace. "Draw me a mountain of gold," demanded the ruler. Malyan refused: "This brush is meant only to help people."

Angry, the ruler locked the boy in a dungeon. But Malyan did not give up. He drew a staircase and escaped from the castle. Then he created enormous waves that washed away the greedy ruler and freed the people from his oppression.

From then on, Malyan continued to use the brush to help people: he drew food for the hungry, houses for the poor, and trees for lifeless fields. His name became a symbol of kindness and creativity.
