The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats: A Moral Story for Children
The story of the Wolf and the Seven Little Goats teaches lessons of cleverness and caution. Discover how the mother goat saved her kids from the wolf just in time, protecting them from danger.
At the edge of the forest, there was an old house where a mother goat lived with her seven little kids. She loved them dearly and took care of them like any mother would.
Each morning, before going into the forest to find food, the goat would warn her kids very strictly:
— Children, do not open the door for anyone until I come back!
One day, the goat went to the forest as usual, and a little while later, someone knocked on the door.
— Little goats, open the door, your mother has come back and brought some milk! — said a rough voice from outside.
The kids were cautious and immediately realized that it was not their mother.
— We won’t open the door; you’re not our mother, you’re the big bad wolf! — the kids answered in unison.
The hungry wolf didn’t give up. He went to the blacksmith and asked him to make his voice softer. Then he returned to the kids' house, knocked again, and spoke in a much gentler voice:
— Little goats, open the door, it’s your mother back home!
But the wolf forgot to hide his big black paw. When the kids saw it through the window, they cried out again:
— No, you’re not our mother, you’re the scary wolf!
Then the wolf ran to the miller and asked him to cover his paws with white flour so they would look like a goat's. The miller didn’t want to help the wolf but was afraid of him, so he agreed.
Now, with white paws and a gentle voice, the wolf returned to the door and knocked once more:
— Little goats, open the door, it’s your mother!
Hearing the familiar voice and seeing the white paws, the kids believed him and opened the door. The wolf burst into the house and began catching each little goat one by one. Only the youngest managed to hide inside the clock.
The wolf ate his fill and went to sleep under a tree at the edge of the forest. Soon after, Mother Goat returned home and saw that her little ones were gone.
— Little goats, where are you? — she cried out.
The youngest kid crept out from his hiding place and told his mother everything that had happened. The goat ran to the sleeping wolf and saw that his belly was swollen.
Carefully, she cut open the wolf's belly and took out all of her kids, who were alive and well. Then she filled the wolf’s belly with heavy stones and sewed it back up.
When the wolf woke up, he felt very thirsty and went to the river to drink. But the stones in his belly weighed him down, and as he bent over to drink, he lost his balance and fell into the river.
The little goats and their mother were saved, and from that day on, they lived happily and carefully, always remembering the lesson of the wolf.
