How to Make Homemade Glue – Scientific Adventures in the Kitchen
Petya and Lena always loved doing crafts. Today, they thought about how they could make their own glue since the glue they usually used had run out. "Why should we buy it when we can make it ourselves?"
Today, Petya and Lena decided to do some crafts, but suddenly noticed that the glue they usually used had run out. Lena thought this was a great opportunity to conduct an experiment. She went to Petya and said:
— Why don't we make our own glue? We can use what we have in the kitchen! We've already done other experiments, so we can handle this one too.
Petya was surprised:
— But what will we make the glue from? It has to be safe and work well.
— It's really simple! For the glue, we need cornstarch, water, and a little lemon juice. It's not only safe, but also fun!
So, the children got to work. Lena took a small pot, poured some water into it, and added the cornstarch. Petya began stirring the mixture with a spoon to avoid lumps. When the mixture thickened slightly, Lena added a few drops of lemon juice.
— Now we need to mix it well, — Lena said, — the lemon juice will help the glue become stronger and more transparent.
Petya kept stirring, and after a few minutes, the mixture turned into a thick liquid. The glue was ready!
— It's amazing that you can make glue from such simple things! — Petya marveled. — And it's completely safe!
Lena poured some glue onto a plate and took a few pieces of paper. She carefully spread glue on one piece and attached it to the other.
— See, it sticks! — Lena said happily. — It really works!
Petya wanted to try it too. He took a few small boxes and decided to glue them together to make a box for his toys. He also applied glue to the boxes and carefully attached the sides.
— Cool! — Petya said. — Lena and I made glue that works really well, and now we can use it for all our crafts! It's safe, and we know for sure that there are no harmful chemicals in it.
Lena noticed the transparency of the glue. She even decided to use it to attach some details to her drawing. Now she could be sure that the glue would hold and wouldn’t leave any marks.
— Did you notice how the glue becomes stronger as it dries? — Lena asked.
— Yes, I noticed! It kind of hardens, — Petya replied, examining the little box he had built.
Petya and Lena continued with their crafts, using the freshly made glue. The pictures, paper toys, and small buildings were very sturdy, and the glue was perfect for all these tasks.
— Now we can make our crafts with this glue as much as we want! — Lena said happily. — We learned how to make this glue, and that’s so cool!
— Yes, and we’ll always know that our glue is completely safe, — Petya added, pleased with the result.
— The best part is that now we know how easy and quick it is to make glue, — Lena summed up. — And we can always use it for our crafts without worrying that it will damage our drawings or toys.
