How to Make a Glowing Lollipop
Children make a glowing lollipop using sugar and lemon juice. An exciting and useful experiment for children that helps explore chemical reactions and create sweet treats by hand.
Lena and Petya loved conducting experiments in the kitchen. Today, they decided to create a glowing lollipop using simple ingredients—sugar and lemon juice. Lena found an interesting recipe online that promised to make the lollipops not only delicious but also glowing in the dark. It was not just a fun activity but a true adventure combining cooking with chemistry.
“Have you ever made a glowing lollipop?” Lena asked, curiously looking at the recipe. “We will use lemon juice and sugar to create a chemical reaction that will make the lollipop glow in the dark!”
Petya, who always loved unusual experiments, excitedly responded:
“A glowing lollipop? That sounds like magic! Do you think it’s safe?”
Lena nodded:
“Yes, it’s completely safe. Lemon juice and sugar are just ordinary ingredients. We will use a chemical reaction called chemiluminescence to make the lollipops glow. It’s like the reaction that happens in some glow sticks!”
The kids began gathering all the necessary materials: sugar, lemon juice, some water, a pot to make the syrup, and lollipop molds. Lena brought small plastic sticks that they could use so that the lollipops would not only glow but also be easy to hold.
“We need to prepare the syrup,” explained Lena, boiling water in the pot. “First, we’ll mix the sugar with water and lemon juice. This will give us the base for the lollipops, and the chemical reaction will start when we add the final ingredient.”
Petya helped Lena by adding sugar to the boiling water. They stirred the mixture until the sugar was completely dissolved. Then, Lena carefully added lemon juice and continued to heat the mixture until it thickened.
“Now comes the fun part,” Lena said, watching the syrup. “We’ll add special ingredients for the chemical reaction to make our lollipops glow!”
Petya watched closely as Lena checked the mixture and noticed it started to change color slightly when she added a special ingredient—a powder that activates the reaction. They took a small bottle of the powder, which is used in experiments to create glowing effects.
